National Lipid Association

Proud Member

Dr. Susan Dimick is a proud member of the National Lipid Association—a national organization of physicians (MD and DO), PhD researchers, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, and dietitians committed to enhancing the practice of lipid management in clinical medicine.

Lipids are organic compounds such as cholesterol, triglycerides and fatty acids that can contribute to development of heart and cardiovascular diseases. Lipidologists, like Dr. Dimick, are doctors who specialize in diseases and disorders associated with lipids and lipoprotein metabolism. They receive additional, focused training in cholesterol management, cardiovascular risk assessment, and intervention.

The NLA brings together lipidologists and health care professionals of all types, using research, education, multidisciplinary collaboration, and outreach to reduce death and disability related to disorders of lipid metabolism. The association coordinates annual conferences for members, provides education and training for healthcare professionals, and works to expand knowledge of and within the exciting new field of lipidology. Physicians who are lipidologists must pass rigorous training and certification exams to become Board Certified in the field through the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.

The NLA combines resources and community, offering physicians access to programming focused on medical knowledge, clinical skills, and related business activities that can provide effective outcomes for patients. Patients will find educational tools on the NLA’s website, including opportunities to learn more about lipidology and the associated disorders, as well as a search tool for locating lipidologists in their area.
